the same as with an .avi… just name the sub the same as the mkv and it should load as it would with an avi file.

Just in case anyone’s planning to d/l ep 50 first to take a peek at the ending: don’t bother. The fat lady ain’t singing yet. Good for another 4-6 eps, I’d say, but I have no hard info (well, apart from the fact that what we saw today — including spoilers for next week — most definitely wasn’t the end).

So puela, either you desert us after your tireless services (but you couldn’t do that to us, could you?) or you are robbed of a few more weekends sleeping and trips out. Let’s hope you can summon up the energy and stick with it… You know we all love you for it.

Hi just want to say thanks for all the hard work you guys put in. I also wanted if there is a difference between the Ental and Shinwa versions of the K-dramas, i usually Dl the Ental version but i was getting curious about the Shinwa version. Thanks a lot again.

Shinhwa version is bigger and a little clearer than Ental. But we don’t have Shinhwa for every eps since they stop ripping the video file (legal problem, we guess).

But if you really want high pixel and crystal clear picture, then try out the 720p version, it is more than double the file size of Ental or Shinhwa…we like to call it the “Pore-fect” version :)

I have a problem with the 1st half of the 720p 49th Ep. It’s either corrupt or mis-uploaded since it does not have a .mkv header. I’ve tried re-downloading, it’s the same.

Can anyone verify it’s not on my end only?

I’ve downloaded split files many times and joined them successfully.
Any .mkv file has the string ‘matroska’ in the first few bytes, and so do simple splits. I’ve checked again on E48/1.
The download I get for E49/1 does not have a valid header.

I will try later from work with a different IP and hopefully a different MU mirror to see if the problem is with their replication.

Abel,

I am the one who uploads all 720p episodes, and there is nothing wrong with my original file. If you have a problem playing the video after joining all the parts, then it might be a problem with your download or new codec?

But if you and others still have problem, let me know and I will reupload the episode.

Also, I download the Klite-codec pack and use Media Classic Player to play all my video file.

I appreciate your help, tnx.
The file is definitely “wrong”. This is not a codec/player issue: I know enough to look at the bits and bytes and this is not the start of a video file.
I’ve downloaded it again from a different server and got the same result.
If your file is fine, then unless someone reports a successful download and join, I must presume that the file is corrupt on MegaUpload’s servers.
I would be very happy if you could re-up just for me but as long as this is only me (on two different computers/ISPs), there’s no rush (until the subs come out ;) )

Yup, abel is quite right. The first part of ep 49 isn’t the opening of an mkv file. But it does look like a bleeding chunk of video data. My best guess is that the second part of a split got mistakenly uploaded in place of the first. I don’t think the download process or MU can generate this kind of thing. Much more likely to be an uploading oversight.

Man - you guys are too technical for me…as I have split and uploaded all 720p for all dramas the same way…can’t say that I did anything differently :( But don’t worry, I will reupload E49 again (should be up by 8am PST) and E50 too. So let me know if it is a OK afterward :)

Thanks for the re-upload, and yes all is now fine.

There are various specialist utilities that will read and display a header, but http://www.chmaas.handshake.de/delphi/freeware/xvi32/xvi32.htm
is a free generic reader/editor that will let you see the hex and ASCII values of any bytes in any file whatever, including the giveaway human readable strings in the codec identifiers in case of a video file.

Also KMP, if the file proves completely unplayable, will automatically show you a dump of the first sector.

Probably the best specialist (Windows) utility for reading all the header info of a movie, and much more, is g-spot.

For obvious reasons (though apparently not obvious to the program’s author) that is a very difficult one to Google for, so here’s the url
http://www.headbands.com/gspot/v26x/index.htm.

But there has to be a header there for g-spot to find in the first place. Where there’s nothing, as in the original upload we’re talking about, you have to resort to a generic hex editor like xvi32 to see the data.

I’m not a sysadmin by trade. I became one by necessity. My real occupation is designing and maintaining on-line dictionaries. But I got so fed up with the “support” offered both by campus computing centers and commercial hosting companies that I decided to learn enough to do that side of things myself, too. Now all the “professional” techies have to do for the projects I’m involved with is to keep the machines reasonably cool and try not to pull out the power chords. Though even that proves too much to expect of them sometimes.

strawberrycoke: There’s no problem with the ep 41 subtitles. I’ve just tried them and they’re fine. Please triple check that you’ve got the file names exactly matching.

If you still can’t spot anything wrong there, and if you’re using GOM or KMP on Windows, either open the subtitle files directly from the player, or load the movie, then drag and drop the subs file on to the player window.

If you’re on a Mac, one last resort is to rename BOTH files from scratch so they match. There are various complex issues about case sensitivity, which works differently on Macs than on Windows. Basically, file names which Windows thinks are the same don’t always look that way to other operating systems.

mimi: Re-check Soompi, in the thread for this drama. You’ll find links to the OST, along with our grumblings that it’s a massively minimalist one. Around 80% of the rather fine music of this series simply isn’t on the CD at all. It’s the one complaint we devotees of this drama have, and maybe always will have.

No more 720p file after Ep50. I think the uploaders thought it ended at Ep50, so they did not rip it anymore…my guess, since I did not see any 8gb nor 1.5gb files at SSW for the last 2 days.

Alas, the maintainers of the drama site at SBS also seem to think it was all over at 50. The scripts are no longer being placed on-line. Links to VOD versions of ep 51 and 52 have been added to the site as usual, but those are added by a robot. The script links are done by a human (you can tell, because they sometimes get them wrong first time round) and it looks like that human has moved on…

Aha! I always expect the worst. (That’s one reason why I love Kdramas I suppose: the worst so often happens). But a couple of moments after that last post, the script links for eps 51 and 52 appeared on the site. And a couple of hours later they even fixed the typos so that the links now even actually point to the scripts!!

So reinforcements for my language-challenged ears continue and I can read up on what the franticly shouting and weepingly mumbled bits are about. Happiness resumed…

Hmm. Just saw the note against #51 in the list after I posted that last comment, and that you’ve killed the link in the meantime. But I’ve just played through the entire ep 51 again (as d/lded from here last week) in GOM and seen no problems at all (nor did I see any a week or so when I watched it straight after d/ling).

pueula, do you still have the original ep 51 file you uploaded? Is that corrupted as well as the the one you re-downloaded from MU? Because all I can think of is that some time between you uploading, me succesfully downloading a working copy and those later downloads that appear to be corrupted, something may have damaged the file on MU. It seems a pity to be holding out on this episode if there really is nothing wrong with it. Has anyone else encountered a problem?

Meanwhile, thanks for ep 53! Thanks to the mind-bogglingly stupid embargo on the live stream outside Korea I didn’t even get a chance to watch the actual showing…

thats why I thought it was weird cause if anything was wrong with it, someone would’ve said something about it, specially those hard-core H-fans. So I’ll take ur word for it, and put the link back. been to busy and havent had a change to look for another link. Also working right now and cant do anything right now. It could be that my file became corrupted in the transaction of download to mac and then transferring it to the external hdd, god knows its not the first time. If someone else complains then i check the link again..^^v

I was really excited when I discovered this link with Shinhwa versions…

Unfortunately all the files were uploaded to Megaupload in which a huge population of us has problem accesing.

Is it possible to upload them to other sites where we wont have to wait like pando where files up to 1gb are possible…

That way you wont need to spilt files and even more fan can get to appreciate and enjoy your efforts!

Junior_pansy - you can download up to 1gb with MU…and you will not find all eps with shinhwa since the group that creates it, no longer does it.

Sorry, we will only upload to MU for now…and we paid to store all these video on MU…we don’t have a server with massive storage to offer it via Pando.

If you have problem downloading from MU, then there’s always Clubbox or torrent file (see d-addicts) that you can use.

Understand that we offer these download free of charge to you…but we still have to pay for the maintenance on our side…so basically, what you see is what you get.

tita - this is not a video streaming site. You would need to download the raw file & sub file. You need to go to How To/Help section, read everything…try everything out. If you want streaming video, then this is not the site for you.

I can’t thank puela and jtranla enough for giving up so many chunks of their weekends to bring us these downloads (and in the case of jtranla a lot of the intervening weekdays as well, tracking down those elusive 720p versions and resynching their subs). I will always think fondly of you two in particular whenever I indulge in viewing marathons of this series, which I think will be quite often over the coming months and years.

Linda - a lot of people report problem w/VLC handling the new Ental video. I would advise you to hit the Help/HowTo section and download another player. I personally use Media Player Classic (comes w/Klite codec pack). But there are different ones that you can use.

ahhh… this is killing meee.. the image is still slow but the audio and subs are right in media player classic but it is less choppy then before… does anyone know how i can fix the slowness?

Linda - r u downloading Ental or 720p version? If it is 720p, your PC might not been strong enough to play the file. That’s all that I can think of given the limited info.

I can’t really say much either. I’m not sure what “slow” video means. If this is the 720p version, and it’s actually rendering is semi-slow motion with some jerkiness, than if it’s the 720p version, your hardware isn’t up to it. But if you’re seeing that on the Ental, then there may be something wrong with your machine. The recent problems with some Ental rips don’t show up a slowness, but as refusal to play alogether in VLC: it’s not a CPU capacity problem but a codec one. Any reasonably recent machine with the right codec ought to be able to play any Ental unless something is stealing memory or CPU cycles.

A BIG thank you to Jtranla for sticking with the 720p files downloads/uploads until the final bell! And also for resyncing and cleaning up the subs. 58 episodes - wow, great job! I hope you take a well-deserved break.

Thank you very much for this excellent drama! The cast is great and 720p is super!

For those having problems playing 720p mkv videos on a slow pc, I would recommend getting CoreAVC codec. I always get stuttering and audio out of sync problems playing 720p on my Pentium 4 3.0GHZ 3 GB ram system. CoreAVC solves those problems. The downside of CoreAVC is that it is not free and I do notice a very slight reduction in video quality (ie, hairs are not as crisp).

Well, just 5 more episodes to download!

I try to dl ep40 and on from megaupload
and it always give me error 503
Did you by any chance deleted the file on mu?
I can’t seem to download anymore, and I still have download spaces on my account…

Jun I havent deleted any of the episodes. Most likely the server where it is located it on maintenance, if deleted it would give u the “file unavailable” message not the 503. Try again later.. its been going around that darn 503 :lol:
